Drivers or Pedestrians, Whose Dynamic Perceptions Are More Effective to Explain Street Vitality? A Case Study in Guangzhou

چکیده

As an important indicator of urban development capacity, vitality can be affected by the human perception street views, which is a dynamic sensory process that differ greatly according to different transportation modes, due their travel speeds, distances, and routes. However, few studies have evaluated how spatial perceptions between modes these differences affect differently, limitation city-scale quantitative data on scenes. To fill gap, we propose “dynamic through-movement perception” (DTMP) measure integrates streetscape quality evaluation model with network-based movement potential model. We qualities from Baidu street-view images (SVI) compare drivers pedestrians in central Guangzhou, China. First, more than twenty visual elements were classified SVIs predict collected surveys. Second, probability driving walking calculated based classic natural theory space syntax measured as angular betweenness for two modes. Third, accumulate multipliers DTMP both Lastly, DTMPs fitted into linear regression models explain vitality, using mobile phone check-in data, when other control variables such functional density, diversity amenity clustering reachability are accounted for. The results show overall shows stronger correlation while perceived richness significantly positive This study provides first evidence reveal influence people’s sense place, turn increasing vitality. Our types commerce (i.e., pedestrian-oriented, auto-oriented) aggregate spontaneously potential, reference planners decision makers improving making revitalization policies.
